Because of Siskin I Can Play with my Grandchildren Again

It was a day of celebration with family, splashing around the pool with his grandchildren on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. Upon entering the home, Tony slipped on the wet floor. His body hit the floor and the celebration came to an end.

He was transported to the hospital where he was told that he had a spinal cord injury. He could not walk or move his arms. After a week in the hospital, he was transferred to inpatient treatment at Siskin Hospital. Walking into his room during his first week at Siskin Hospital, Tony seemed defeated and exhausted. But there was one thing that was motivating Tony to get moving: his grandchildren. He wanted to play with them again. Thankfully he was able to have a few visits with them in our Leisure Park to keep him motivated.

After six weeks of inpatient therapy, Tony was able to get home to his grandchildren.  He recently graduated from our outpatient program.  In one of his last sessions, he bends forward to work on his strength. Then jokingly tells the therapist that this is a grandfather move – always bending up and down to play with toy cars on the floor.

Tony – we are so grateful that you are back where you belong. Back to the title you hold most proud in the world: Grandfather. Because of Siskin Hospital, Tony can play with his grandchildren again.
