Job Summary

To evaluate, treat, manage, and monitor adolescent and adult patients with deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system. The Respiratory Care Therapist exercises broad independent clinical judgement, within their licensed scope of practice, and will work independently in the absence of the Respiratory Care Manager. The Respiratory Care Therapist is required to remain proficient with the management of various high-stress clinical situations, significant biological hazards and a large variety of equipment as they relate to Respiratory Therapy.

Scope of Authority / Leadership Responsibilities / Reporting Relationships/ Identification of Work Team

RCT reports to the Respiratory Care Department Manager or to the Director of Quality and Compliance in the absence of the Manager. The position will be responsible for training assigned students/orientees/personnel.

Adolescent (12 – 18 Years)
Adult (19 – 65 Years)
Older Adult (Over 65 Years)

Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents (education, experience, and/or specific skills) *Must maintain time frame for proficiency when appropriate for meeting education


One year of experience in Respiratory Care preferred
Must have a general understanding of computers

Licensure / Certification

Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Respiratory Care Therapist with a Blood Gas Endorsement
Maintain BLS and ACLS Certification
Registered or Certified by the NBRC
Minimum of one year Acute Care or LTAC experience preferred

Skills / Competencies

CPAP / BiPAP, Pulse Oximetery, Compressors, Vapotherm, AEDs, Percussors, In-Check Dial
Good Communication, patient care technique, decision-making and prioritization abilities.
Computer and technical skills are necessary to perform duties
