Matt Gibson selected as new Siskin Hospital CEO

December 30, 2019

Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has selected Matthew A. Gibson, PhD, FACHE, as its next president and CEO.

The appointment comes following the October announcement of current President and CEO Carol Sim’s plans to retire in early 2020.

“Matt’s experience, character, and intellect will ably lead Siskin Hospital into its next phase of growth and service to this region,” said Ms. Sim.

“We are delighted to welcome Matt Gibson as the new CEO of Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation,” said Trudy Harper, Siskin Hospital board chair. “Matt has significant leadership experience and a passion for healthcare, and his focus on strategic planning and corporate development make him an excellent choice to lead Siskin Hospital. We believe Matt is prepared to maintain and expand the impact Siskin Hospital has on our community through our critical mission of providing excellent care to our patients.”

Mr. Gibson brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience to his new position, most recently as senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Erlanger Health System, where he focuses on leading strategy, business development, mergers and acquisitions, and innovation. While at Erlanger, he developed and implemented a comprehensive primary care/access strategy which resulted in the opening of several new regional primary care clinics and six urgent care centers within the last 18 months, along with the market’s first virtual primary care program. Mr. Gibson also oversaw the creation of the first health care tech accelerator in Tennessee in partnership with Unum and CO.LAB, as well as developed an enterprise-wide strategic plan.

Aside from Erlanger, his diversity of experience includes managing operations through the oversight and organization of business strategy development and the growth and profitability of product lines at investor-owned hospitals and a large multi-state nonprofit health system. Mr. Gibson is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds a PhD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also holds a master of business administration and a master in health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Mr. Gibson will begin his Siskin Hospital responsibilities in January 2020.
