Marcus K. Shaw

Marcus K. Shaw is the Executive Director of The Company Lab (CO.LAB). CO.LAB supports entrepreneurial growth in southeast Tennessee by working with entrepreneurs to refine their business models, test their ideas with customers, pursue capital and partnerships, and connect with a community of mentors, peers and business experts. Additionally, CO.LAB works to create environments that inspire entrepreneurial activity, open doors within the business community and promote job creation.

Marcus is the former senior director of business development and partnerships for Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), a D.C.-based non-profit that helps build diversity and leadership pipelines for corporate institutions, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. He significantly grew MLT’s partnerships with Fortune 500 companies, and led the proposal for an entrepreneurship development program, focused on women and minorities. He is also the founder of a boutique consulting company that specializes in working with startups and small to medium-sized businesses.

Marcus’s professional background includes over 10 years working in equity research and investment management.  He was a member of Bank of America’s Telecom Services team, which ranked consistently among top wall street teams by Institutional Investor’s survey. He also served as the head of tech, media and telecom research at a D.C.-based investment advisor focused on policy and regulated industries. He started his career as a network engineer with IBM.

Marcus earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Marcus is a member of The Enterprise Center Board and the Chattanooga Technology Council Board.  He also serves on the Chancellor’s Roundtable at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Minority Alumni Advisory Board at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
