    Dr. Charles Schmittdiel

    Clinical Psychologist

    Charles J. Schmittdiel, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist/health service provider with expertise and certification in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, an evidence-based treatment that is now recognized as a first line treatment intervention for adults with chronic insomnia by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American College of Physicians.

    Behavioral sleep medicine also includes working with individuals with other sleep disorders, such as patients struggling with CPAP use for sleep apnea, coping with narcolepsy and RLS, and managing parasomnias such as sleep walking. He also has extensive experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions for other behavioral conditions, including anxiety and coping with chronic pain. Dr. Schmittdiel has also worked in the bariatric field for several years, including with two accredited bariatric surgical centers, as part of the interdisciplinary bariatric surgical process. He has more than 30 years of experience in the field of clinical psychology and is the only certified behavioral sleep medicine practitioner in the Chattanooga area.

    Dr. Schmittdiel  obtained his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed his internship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is Certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and is recognized by the National Register for Health Service Psychologists. He is also a member of the Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine and the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies.
