RESOURCES

Prospective Patients

Admission:
Your transportation from another facility to Siskin Hospital is arranged by your case managers. You and your family are only responsible for transportation to the hospital if you are admitted from home. When you arrive, we will provide bedside admission and a patient information folder to answer more detailed questions about your time here.

Your Room:
Sharing your rehabilitation progress with another patient is often part of your treatment program, so most rooms are very large and designed to accommodate the needs of two rehabilitation patients. There is a curtain between the two beds to provide privacy.

Food Services:
Every effort is made to allow for your food preferences and religious restrictions and to comply with your medical and texture requirements. If you are experiencing swallowing difficulties, we ask that your family and friends not bring you food without prior approval from a Siskin Hospital physician.

Flowers and Mail:
You may receive flowers and mail during your stay. These items should be addressed to:

Your Name
Your Room Number
One Siskin Plaza
Chattanooga, TN 37403

Visiting Hours:

Visiting with family and friends is an important part of your recovery and visits are encouraged. Visitors should check in and out with the receptionist in the main lobby upon arrival and when leaving. Because of the patient's busy therapy schedule, visitors are encouraged to stop by M-F from 5:00- 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 3:00-9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 4:00-9:00 p.m.

A Typical Day:
Though your schedule will vary depending on your diagnosis and your goals, the schedule below outlines the typical day for most inpatients. When you are in your room during the day, rehabilitation nurses may use the time to provide valuable education to you and your family or to help you practice the skills you learn in therapy.

Early Morning: You will be served breakfast and members of therapy or nursing staff will assist you in daily living skills like bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating as needed.

Midmorning: The therapies ordered by your physiatrist will take place in the patient gyms, your room, or other specific locations within the hospital.

Midday: You will have lunch in the patient dining room, your floor’s community room, or in your room. If you have difficulty with motor skills or swallowing, nurses or therapists will be on hand to assist you.
Afternoon: More physiatrist-ordered therapies will take place or you will have an opportunity to rest.

Evening: Dinner will be served with assistance provided as needed. After dinner, you will have time to relax, visit with family and friends, or pursue other leisure activities.
