Assistant Director of Nursing - Skilled Nursing Facility

Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing for our Skilled Nursing facility, known as Siskin West.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supervising assigned units under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Director of Nursing and is responsible and accountable for the nursing care of all patients/residents. He/She will provide direction for nursing care and participates in creation and review of policies and procedures. They will remain current on evidence-based practice guidelines and standards of care. The ADON works directly with staff to assure care is provided in a safe and reliable manner, and participates in associate recruitment and retention. This includes hiring, terminating, and developing associates. He/She assures that staff is competent to provide patient care through orientation and ongoing education and will provide mentoring/coaching with unit associates and document these activities. This individual will participate in the use of the corrective action process effectively to improve performance. They will also participate in the planning and management of the 24 hour per day schedule and staffing plan. The ADON provides direct patient care on a regular basis, is visible and interactive on all shifts, and makes recommendations related to the business plan and budget for assigned areas. This position participates in monitoring compliance with budget parameters and serves as a liaison between nursing staff, Medical Staff, patients, families, and the facility leadership team. The successful candidate will communicate both formally and informally with associates and presents required changes in a positive and supportive manner. The ADON s responsible to ensure nursing units are in compliance with standards for accreditation and state/federal regulations and leads Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives, produces reports, and posts information on the nursing units.

The ADON will work collaboratively with other patient care and support departments in meeting patient and hospital needs. They will participate in the rotation of coverage for House Supervisor shifts, both dayshift, weekend, and nightshift as well as early/late assignments as needed and as assigned. Covers shifts as Staff Nurse when needed, including nights and weekends.

 

Minimum Qualification of Equivalents:

Education:

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing with current, unrestricted licensure as RN by State of Tennessee. BSN preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years nursing experience, with a record of progressive leadership beyond staff levels. Nursing Management experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in a physical rehabilitation setting in either a staff or management capacity preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current, unrestricted Tennessee State RN licensure or licensure in a compact state.

  • Current CPR certification (American Heart Assn BLS)

  • ACLS within six months of employment required.

  • CRRN required when eligible for exam.

  • Ability to utilize computers for clinical and administrative functions.

  • Able to identify opportunities to improve quality of patient care, implement a plan and monitor outcomes.

 

Physical/Mental Requirements

Must be able to lift objects more than fifty pounds and assist with patient transfers (exceeding 200 pounds). Manual dexterity and coordination with the ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients and performance of tasks requiring arm-hand steadiness. Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to remember task assignments for varying periods of time. Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with frequent interruptions and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time.

This position requires the ability to receive detailed/technical information from a variety of sources, retain it and use it effectively in future decision making. The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors, and the ability to move about the hospital.
