Siskin Hospital Rebounders
Since 1999, Siskin Hospital has sponsored the Siskin Hospital Rebounders, a championship team in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). The team practices weekly and plays from October to March competing in tournaments from the midwest to the southeast. This co-ed team is open to players with all degrees of physical disability, instills confidence, and a sense of camaraderie. For more information on the Siskin Hospital Rebounders, email basketball@SiskinRehab.org, or call Tod Cain at (423) 634-1648, or click here.

Wheelchair Tennis
As an advocate for disabled sports, Siskin Hospital offers wheelchair tennis instruction and practice. The program offers individuals with a variety of physical challenges the opportunity to learn the game of tennis, receive instruction, and is a great venue for fitness. This game is also an excellent way to participate in shared activities with friends and family members with and without disabilities! It is easily altered so that chair users can enjoy the game alongside able-bodied players, family members and friends.

Wheelchair Tennis is not just for individuals who use a wheelchair for daily mobility, but it is also for anyone whose knee or hip replacement surgery, prosthetic, or other lower mobility challenge limit their ability to play standing tennis successfully. Sports wheelchairs are available for those without their own chair.

Siskin Hospital sponsors the Chattanooga Wheelchair Tennis Tournament each Summer. In 2006, it was held in early July.

For more information about practice times and volunteer positions, please call Stephanie Dodd at 423-634-1549.

Therapy Services (off-site locations)
As a partnership with Erlanger Medical Center, Siskin Hospital offers area locations for a variety of rehabilitation services including sports, industrial and general rehabilitation. For more information, visit Therapy Services or call 423.778.3196

Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational Rehabilitation at Siskin Hospital serves Chattanooga’s disabled community by providing skills for work, independent living and traveling through evaluation, assessment, training, and support. Participants find pride and a sense of purpose in returning to work and to independent travel and living skills through programs in Community Re-entry Services and Vocational Services. For more information, call 423.634.1534.

Employee Volunteerism
Far beyond the charity care provided through hospital resources, Siskin Hospital staff members created two internal initiatives to support the needs of patients, the Patient Care Fund and the Clothes Closet.

The Patient Care Fund is dedicated to meeting patients’ needs not met by patient resources or payor sources. Each year, employees raise thousands of dollars for the Patient Care Fund through internal events and fundraisers.

For patients who are unable to afford appropriate clothing for therapy and their rehabilitation stay, staff members organized and continuously fill the Clothes Closet, making clean, suitable clothing always available.

Each year, Siskin Hospital staff initiate and actively support hospital-wide campaigns to benefit the United Way, the Forgotten Child Fund, Santa for All Seasons, the Chattanooga Food Bank and the Community Kitchen, and give of their personal time as volunteers for more than 20 local nonprofit organizations.

Support Groups
Because Siskin Hospital understands the importance of camaraderie and encouragement outside the hospital setting, we host or sponsor support groups designed to address the social, emotional, medical, and legal issues facing community members and their families experiencing:
• Brain Injury
• Lymphedema
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Muscular Dystrophy
• Myastenia Gravis
• Blindness
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Spinal Cord Injury
• Stroke
